Happy New Year to all!
We are celebrating the New Year by working on improving all of our services so that we can offer the best care possible to our patients. We are making changes to our dental program to that effect, requiring parents to make their own appointments and attend with their child. The purpose of these changes is to encourage parents to take more responsibility for their child’s dental health.
We look forward to change and improvement. If you have any suggestions, please contact us on the contact page.
Blessings!

Year Ending
Its been a great year here in Santo Domingo! We’ve had the opportunity to do many exciting things and grow and improve our services in the Medical Center. This year brought the beginning of the Early Intervention Program and a wonderful partnership with the Dominican Association of Rehabilitation (ADR). We had several medical professionals come throughout the year as well and were able to begin talks to partner with the Dominican University of Odontology (UOD).
We are first thankful to God for all of His blessings, and grateful to our dedicated employees for all of their hard work throughout the year.
As we look forward to the New Year, there are many new opportunities — such as beginning to bill insurances to generate new income to cover increasing costs, creating partnerships with other organizations and strengthening current partnerships, and training and building up staff to continue the good work that the Lord has given to us.
Many blessings during this Christmas season and we look forward to spending time with you in the New Year.
¡Feliz Navidad y Prospero Año Nuevo!

Inauguration of ADR/ME Program
The Inauguration of the Early Intervention Program was a successful event that attracted personalities from all over. Honored guests included Senator Christina Lizardo, representing the capital of Santo Domingo, officials from Public Health, from the Department of Child Welfare, from the Mayor’s office, representatives of the Fire Department and the local urgent care, as well as representatives from the Association for Persons with Physical Disabilities and other community leaders.
Mission Emanuel’s stateside staff including Jack Larson, Executive Director; Jim Sweeney, Director of Short-term Missions; Cindy Sweeney, liaison for sponsorship programs; Rick Bosserman, member of the Board of Directors; and our new Director of Ministries in the DR, Bill Randolph all attended. In country staff were in attendance as well as the national Director of ADR (Dominican Association of Rehabilitation), the founder of ADR and heads of several departments attended as well.
The event included remarks by Mr. Larson, Dr. Perez (Executive Director of ADR), Mary Marranzini (founder of ADR) and the mother of a patient in the program, and a dance by a youth group from the church. The ceremony and remarks were followed by a ribbon cutting. Guests also enjoyed a traditional “picadera,” which are hors d’oeuvres with juice.

Inauguration of ADR/ME Early Intervention Program
On August 18th, we will be inaugurating the newest program that we have in the clinic. The Early Intervention Program began on June 1st this year and we have added new personnel every few weeks. The purpose of the program is to provide therapy for children from ages 0-6 with the end goal of allowing them to reach their full potential and integrate into regular school programs, instead of needing to attend a special education school. There are very limited spaces in schools for children with disabilities here. The program also provides assistance to children ages 7-16 with learning disabilities.
The inauguration will include members of ADR (The Dominican Association of Rehabilitation), members of Mission Emanuel, members of the press, government, community and hospital administrators. Photos of the event will follow on the Portfolio page.
